NGC7331 - spiral galaxy in Pegasus

Authors: Magnus Nyborg, Jakob Selbing
Object: NGC7331, spiral galaxy in Pegasus
Exposure: 10 x 180 s(= 24 min), unguided
Equipment: MX5-C through Meade LX200 at f/3 (with Meade f/3.3 reducer).

Comment: This galaxy's bright core makes it very easy to spot visually in the 12" LX200. The image has been log stretched to compensate for this. The galaxy has a great deal of details, and good seeing and precise guiding is cruical. Notice the four smaller galaxies to the left of 7331.

There are actually 13 visible galaxies in the original picture. Below you can see a chart of all the galaxies (except NGC7331, that's the LARGE one), and a short comment to each of them. I used an image from the NOAO image gallery to identify the galaxies.

  1. Unidentified type
  2. Spiral galaxy
  3. Elliptical galaxy
  4. This galaxy is probably a dwarf companion to no. 3
  5. Elliptical galaxy
  6. Elliptical galaxy
  7. Unidentified type
  8. Spiral galaxy
  9. Unidentified type, might be spiral galaxy
  10. Spiral galaxy
  11. Unidentified type
  12. Spiral galaxy, barely visible
