M27 - Dumbbell nebula in Vulpecula

Authors: Jakob Selbing
Object: M27, Dumbbell nebula
Exposure: 15 x 160 s(= 40 min), unguided
Equipment: MX5-C through Meade LX200 at f/5.5

Comment: This image of the famous planetary nebula M27 has the highest S/N of all images from Landeryd so far. The 15 exposures give a S/N equal to that of a single 10 minute exposure. Notice the small dust clouds near the central star. Unfortunately some poor performance of the focal reducer causes smearing of the stars in the edges of the image. This might be due to bad correction in the near infrared spectrum.
