B33 - Horsehead nebula in Orion

Authors: Magnus Nyborg, Jakob Selbing
Object: B33, Horsehead nebula in Orion
Exposure: 12 x 180 s(= 36 min), unguided
Equipment: MX5-C through Meade LX200 at f/3 (with Meade f/3.3 reducer).

Comment: The Horsehead nebula is a dark dust cloud that obscurs light from the red emission nebula in the Zeta Orionis region. It has a rather low surface brightness, which makes it suitable for CCD imaging instead of emulsion photographing. Unfortunately the bright star Zeta in Orion causes some reflections inside the telescope, and those reflections can be seen in the image as faint streaks of light with a radial centre to the left of the image.
